Monday Classes
(C) Preschool Art Expression 11-11:45 a.m. for ages 3 - 5 with Meeghan Humphrey $28 class fee/$25 member rate 5 weeks beginning June 18
We will create with paint, paper, scissors, glue and lots of other fun materials. Students will learn to relate their projects to a story or idea and the season. They will receive instruction in the proper use and care of art materials. Students will be encouraged to develop confidence through doing. Dress for a mess.
(C) Basic Drawing for Children 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. for grades 4 - 6 with Meeghan Humphrey $30 class fee/$27 member rate 6 weeks beginning June 18
In this class for kids who love to draw, the focus is on "What do you see?" and "Draw what you see." Students will use a variety of drawing materials and be introduced to the "tricks of the trade" that professional artists use. Students will be encouraged to use their creativity while working on subjects with appeal to their age group.
Tuesday Classes (C) Mixed Media for Kids 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. for grades 1-6 with Meeghan Humphrey 6 weeks beginning June 12
What is mixed media anyway? This class will give kids who are interested in art a chance to use and combine a variety of materials. We will draw, paint, sculpt and construct. Students will be encouraged to stretch creatively while learning about how to use a wide variety of materials and techniques.
(T) "Thirsty in the Rain" A Multi-Media Workshop for Teen Girls 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. with Anzietta DiPierro $45 class fee/$41.50 member rate Tuesdays and Thursdays for three weeks beginning June 12
This class is based on themes from the instructors training with The Ophelia Project (Saving the Selves of Adolescent Girls), and symbolism within our Visual Culture.We will discuss current trends teens can take advantage of in order to "savethemselves" from social, economic, and self-destruction while creating art workabout their lives, values, and aspirations. The artwork in this class will focus on developing the positive and creative side of our personalities. Projects including affirmation cards, altered portraits, and a few funky crafts will fulfill the need to express your creative side. Students will need a composition notebook.

Students in this class will work on a series of projects that incorporate all the basic methods of hand building in clay. All the projects will be bisque fired and glazed to create permanent works of art.
(T,A) Teen/Adult Sculpture/Garden Art 7:15 - 8:45 p.m. with Sandy Rill $40 class fee/$36 member rateplus a $20 materials fee Six weeks beginning June 12
Students in this class will learn the basics of handbuilding and sculpture in clay while creating projects suitable for display in the garden. Create a handmade bird bath, garden totem and more. Projects will be fired to permanence in the Arts Center kiln.
(C) Miss Spider’s Tea party 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. for kids entering grades K - 2 with Rebecca Stowell $20 class fee/$18 member rate Tuesdays & Thursdays for 2 weeks beginning July 10
Make your own fantasy tea set based on the book "Miss Spider's Tea Party". Students will read the book and create a tea pot cup and saucer of their own design. The last class will be a tea party for the kids using their creations.

This class is for the slightly older student who would like a challenge in working with clay. Students will have the chance to learn the basics of working on the potter's wheel. They will also hand build sculptural and functional objects.
Wednesday Classes (C) How to Draw People 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. for grades 3-6 with Kristina Keenan $30 class fee/$27 member rate 6 weeks beginning June 13
This is a great class for students who love to draw but would like to know the secrets to drawing people. Learn the correct proportions for drawing the head and body. Learn to flesh out your sketches and develop confidence in figure drawing.
(T/A) Mapping Out Portraits 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. with Kristina Keenan $27 Members/$30 Non-Members 6 Weeks Beginning June 13
The instructor will teach students how to use the average proportions of the human head to place the features of the subject. Learn how to use observation of the difference between the average and their subject to create a more realistic portrait. Kristina will also demonstrate how to draw the subject from ¾ view. As time allows, students may also play with drawing the human head in caricature or cartoon style.
(T, A) Drawing with Mixed Media 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. with Bonnie Selip $40 class fee/$36 member rate 8 weeks beginning June 13
This is a beginning class in drawing. Students will learn to draw what they see and render objects realistically. We will work in a variety of media (drawing materials). The instructor will supply the colored pencils, conte crayons, etc. to experiment with. Students will supply a sketchbook, drawing pencil and pink pearl eraser. Please do not purchase materials before the first class; we will discuss the size needed at our first meeting. Materials for the first lesson will be provided by the teacher.
Thursday Classes (A) Beginning Stained Glass 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. with Leslie Taylor four weeks beginning June 14 $75 class fee/$67.50 member rate plus a $50 materials fee
Students will be introduced to the copper foil method of stained glass while completing a flat panel. Students will choose from a selection of patterns provided by the teacher. The finished panel will measure approximately 7 1/2 x 10 inches. All materials are included in the class fee. This is truly a class for beginners, so sign up and give it a try.

(T,A) Watercolor Techniques 10:00 a.m. -.11:30 a.m. with Rebecca Ollikainen $40 class fee/$36 member rate 6 weeks beginning June 16
This class is for adults interested in learning techniques in watercolor that will enable the student to work on their own subject matter outside of the classroom setting. Each class will include demonstrations of technique and time for students to paint.
(T,A) Oil Painting 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. with Bonnie Selip $45 class fee/$40 member rate 6 weeks beginning June 16
This is a beginning course that will teach the "A to Z's" of oil painting. Along with demonstrations of techniques, you will be encouraged to learn to choose a good composition before you begin a painting and learn to paint what you see. Many of the classes will meet outdoors, weather permitting. A materials list is available at the Arts Center, however, the instructor prefers that you wait to purchase materials until after she reviews them at the first class. If you already have supplies, bring them to the first session.
One Week Classes (C) Creative Printmaking 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. for grades 6-8 with Dennis Kortyka $35 class fee/$31.50 member rate Daily, June 11 - 15.
Explore the possibilities of printmaking in this class. Students will use linoleum to create monoprints with watercolors, print from a carved design, use photo-sensitive paper to create nature prints and more. The possibilities are endless.
(C) Bead abead abead 10:15 - 11:15 a.m. for grades 6-8 with Meeghan Humphrey $35 class fee/$31.50 member rate Daily, June 11-15
Try your hand at making your own beads out of polymer clay. Students will choose their own colors and make a selection of beads during the first four days of class. The last day will be devoted to combining the beads we make into jewelry to take home. There will be plenty of beads for necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Once you learn how easy it is to create impressive-looking beads, you will want to create more at home. The materials are simple and inexpensive.

Paper can be made to do almost anything… In this class, learn to manipulate paper into a relief sculpture illustration, create your own embossed stationery & envelopes, make a frameable silhouette of yourself, make your own handmade paper, create marbled paper and create handmade gift boxes from paper. Students in this class will learn lots of new techniques that they can use at home.

Explore the outdoors through art. We will work outside as much as weather permits for this class. Students will make a nature t-shirt using leaves, flowers and other items collected from the Arts Center grounds. We will also make fish prints, watercolor nature prints, animal hand prints, sun prints and sand candles.
