This introduction to theater will engage teens in a variety of activities from creative dramatics to listening skills and stage movement.
We will stress interaction with others and self-development.
One-Day Theater Workshops
Stage Dialects
For teens and adults
January 26th, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

A basic introduction to three of the more commonly used English and American dialects for the stage: Cockney, New York metropolitan, and Received Pronunciation (upperclass English). Differences in pronunciation, cadence, and timbre will be demonstrated and discussed. Practice monologues will be provided for each. Maximum 20 students.
Oral Interpretation
For teens and adults
February 16th, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
$10 workshop fee/$9 member rate

Tips on pacing, diction, inflection, and other aspects of oral presentation for the beginning to intermediate actor (teen to adult). Students will bring a short poem (25 lines or less) or one-minute monologue to interpret aloud, for constructive evaluation by the instructor and classmates. Maximum 15 students.
Physicality Or “Everything I Know I Learned from Cartoons...”
March 1st

12:30 - 2:30 p.m. for ages 10 to adults
Based upon a lifelong love of cartoon characters and utilizing games, exercises and discussions, the goal of the workshop is to help participants discover how to better animate the choices they make in their theatrical roles. The work will at times be somewhat strenuous, so everyone should wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to move. Prior to class, participants are asked to choose a favorite cartoon character and be prepared to discuss their choice with the group.
Children’s Theater Production Class
For grades 1-8
$65 class fee/$59.50 member rate
Auditions will be held on Tues., Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m. and Thurs., Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m. for roles in the production,
“Charlotte’s Web the Musical.”
Auditioners should come prepared with a 30 second song to sing and a poem or short reading. This class and production are intended to showcase students previously enrolled in AAC drama classes, however, that is not a requirement to sign up for the class. Participants will be involved in all aspects of the production. The class will culminate in a main stage show on March 28, 29 & 30. Persons chosen to be in the class/production must be able to attend rehearsals and be present at all performances. Rehearsals/classes will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
