While spring leads to thoughts of outside fun with family and friends, don’t forget to set aside time to catch Ballet Theatre Ashtabula’s annual spring show, Classics Rock! This year’s must-see production will offer a diverse and memorable collection of music and dance. Premieres and audience favorites will take you from the edgy and pulsating music of the Bodyrockers and Genesis to the romance and beauty of Chopin and Rachmaninov.

“Nightswimming” a lyrical ensemble piece, choreographed by Clover Robinson, will take the audience back to places of the heart. Clover sees the work as a reflection of memories and youth mixed with intimate moments moved by the tide. Another full company piece will be performed to the Adagio movement of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto no. 2. This piece, choreographed by Shelagh Dubsky, is neo-classical in style but full of poetry, warmth and emotion. Cleveland rock fans might recognize the beautiful melody in Rachmaninov’s concerto as the same melody in Eric Carmen’s ballad “All By Myself.” Even the young singersongwriter appreciated the melodic invention and exquisite craftsmanship of Rachmaninov’s composition.

The classic virtuoso Pas de Deux “Don Quixote” is always an audience favorite and it stretches the dancer’s technique to the limit! A resetting of a Shostakovich Pas de deux was choreographed originally for Clover Robinson and Mark Sivy in 1992. This work delves into the deep and mature love a man has for his wife and is a dramatic yet enduring ballet.A departure from the usual dance style of B.T. A. will be seen in the new contemporary ensemble work, ”Out of Bounds.” This piece, choreographed by Clover Robinson, explores the raw underlying emotions that people normally control through their daily regimented routines. Rounding out the concert will be works set to the music of Michael Buble, Dionne Farris, Vivaldi, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Pie Jesu,” Missy Elliot and Michael Ware.

Turn the beauty of spring into an unforgettable experience...enjoy the classics, the new and the different and celebrate the wonderul efforts of this area’s very talented dancers!
