Halloween Kids Day Out a Success!:
Posted: Tuesday, October 15, 2002

The Arts Center hosted its annual Halloween Kids Day Out on Friday, October 11, 2002. Almost 80 kids ranging in age from 6 to 12 spent their day off from school (NEOEA Day) making Halloween-themed crafts for the upcoming holiday.

The event lasted from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., with a different activity or craft presented each half hour. Some of the projects throughout the course of the day included making "witch hands" with popcorn, candy corn and plastic gloves; making edible eyeballs from powdered doughnuts and lifesavers; decorating trick-or-treat bags; making flying bats and witch lollipops; creating creepy looking scars and bruises; baking up a batch of slime; and playing the always-popular "mummy wrap" game.

Coordinated by AAC Visual Arts Coordinator Meeghan Humphrey, this popular event has grown tremendously over the years, to the point of even having to turn kids away when spaces are full.

Our many thanks go out to the group of dedicated volunteers who came out and got messy with the kids on this busy day. Ranging from teenaged siblings to parents or friends of the Arts Center, these volunteers helped show kids how to make projects and crafts, and even found themselves wrapped up in the mummy game along with the kids.

Be sure to check out the slide show for pictures of this fun and creative day!
