BASKET WORKSHOPS:
Posted: Thursday, August 19, 2004

WITH BEV NEWBOLD

All classes start at 5:30 p.m. and generally require 3 1/2 hours of weave time. Please register at least one week in advance so that the instructor can prepare materials.

RECIPE BOX---Thursday, January 13
$36 Members/$40 Nonmembers plus $20 materials fee
This basket is designed to hold recipe cards or CD’s. It will be finished with a wooden lid, which will be topped with a white porcelain knob. Instructor will take the baskets to fit the lid and students can pick them up during the January 27th class time. Approximate size of the basket is 6” x 12” x 5.” This is a good beginner weave.

BASKET NECKLACE---Thursday, January 27
$36 Members/$40 Nonmembers plus $20 materials fee
Come and weave a darling little basket pouch necklace of black ash, cane and other natural fibers. Waxed linen thread will be twined into the basket for a color banding. Beads, other embellishments and a leather strap will be added. Students can let their imaginations run wild with ideas for trimming. Basket measures slightly less than 2” x 3.”

COLONIAL KEY BASKET---Thursday, February 10
$27 Members/$30 Nonmembers plus $15 materials fee
This basket is done on a frame using an 8-inch hoop for the handle and another cut in half to form the rim. It features a God’s Eye diamond weave on each side. The body of the basket pouches out in the front and is flat on the back. In colonial times, these baskets were hung on the outside of doors to hold the keys to them. It would be wonderful filled with silk flowers and hung on a wall.

PUMPKIN POT---Thursday, February 24
$45 Members/$50 Nonmembers plus $25 materials fee
Who says pumpkins can’t say love when they are as cute as this one? This basket is woven on a slotted 8-inch round wood base. It is woven in continuous weave to form a rusty orange round pot with walls 7 inches high. Ceramic leaves, copper curls and a handmade copper handle will complete this little charmer.

EASTER BASKET---Thursday, March 3
$36 Members/$40 Nonmembers plus $20 materials fee
This basket will remind many who see it of the kind of Easter basket they received as a child. It is woven around an 8 inch “D” handle as a small square basket which opens up at the top like a flower blossom. It features a scalloped border of round reed around the rim. Spring time color weavers will be added to complete the Easter look. Perfect for filling with candy and eggs!
