BASKET WORKSHOPS
with Bev Newbold
Square Market Basket
Thursday, September 16, 5:30 - 9:00 PM
$18 Members / $20 Nonmembers
Plus $25 Materials Fee
This basket is woven on a 10-inch wide by 14-inch tall “D” handle. The base incorporates 2-row fillers. The side walls of the basket are woven with color banding reminiscent of Native American basketry. This is a practical basket that can be used to hold towels, magazines, needlework or quilting supplies. Basicbasket techniques are learned as well as use of color. NOTE: Native American Day is September 22.
Twilled Storage Basket
Three Thursdays, October 14, 21 & 28 - 5:30 - 9:00 PM each class
$40.50 Members / $45 Nonmembers
Plus $40 Materials Fee
This large and unusual storage basket, equal to a bushel basket in size, can hold blankets or quilts for those chilly fall days. The base of the basket is a 4/4 twill pattern. The side walls are woven with 1/4 binder cane in a twill pattern that swirls around the basket. There are rows of color at both the bottom and top of the side walls. Students can expect to complete the base on the first night, and begin the sides of the basket. The second week of class will be used to weave the sidewalls. The third week will be needed to rim the top of the basket. The base of the basket measures 11 inches by 11 inches, with side walls that flare out and weave 14-15 inches high. The circumference of the rim is 54 inches. Prepare to be challenged by this beautiful basket, worth every bit of effort. NOTE: This class is not recommended for students without weave experience. If a student is unable to attend all three weeks of class, arrangements for completion of the basket must be made with the instructor prior to the start of class.
Wood-Bottomed Relish Bowl
Thursday, November 4, 5:30 - 9:00 PM
$18 Members / $20 Nonmembers
Plus $25 Materials Fee
This is a shallow bowl, with a slotted 10-inch round wood base, designed to hold a round relish tray liner (included if available) and is perfect for fruits or veggies and dip for the upcoming holiday season. Basket without the liner makes a nice bowl for apples and oranges or dinner rolls. Side walls flare out slightly and weave 4 inches high. Great Christmas gift!
Matchstick Basket
Thursday, November 18, 5:30 - 9:00 PM
$18 Members / $20 Nonmembers
Plus $20 Materials Fee
This tall basket is woven around a 6 x 17-inch “D” handle. Its base is only as wide as the wooden handle, 6 inches across by 1 inch wide. The walls of the basket weave 11 inches high. Weave technique is basic with twining at the base to hold all the stakes in place. Hang this one on the wall by the fireplace to told tall matches.
