WILLIAMSBURG CROCK BASKET Thursdays, March 31st and April 7th$27 Members/$30 Nonmembers plus $25 materials fee
This unusual basket was designed by the instructor after she saw a picture of an old milk crock with a handle that was attached low on the body of the crock. Inspired by the appearance of that crock, she wove a basket to mimic the crock and used a lovely 7 x 10 flared handle on it.The base of the basket is 7 x 7. The body of the basket will weave round in shape, incorporating the handle in that weave for several rows. The body of the basket will then pull away from the handle. It will then weave inside the handle area, with the weave drawing in, allowing the basket to be finished with a round top. The finished basket is a great addition to any basket collection.
CHIEFS DAUGHTER JARDINAIRE Thursdays, April 21st and April 28th$27 Members/$30 Nonmembers plus $25 materials fee This Native American inspired basket is somewhat challenging to weave but worth the effort when it is finished. It features a pattern of four diamonds, representing the four directions, the four seasons, the cycle of life. It is woven on an 8 wood slotted base. The twill pattern of diamonds is woven in dark blue. It weaves round at the top with no handle. The rim is lashed in place with dark blue waxed linen thread. It is a container basket that could hold dried grasses or place a large glass vase or jar inside it to hold fresh floral arrangements. Walls weave approximately 11 high.
VICTORIAN GARDEN BASKET Thursdays, May 5th and May 12th$27 Members/$30 Nonmembers plus $25 materials fee Reach for the shears and take along this basket to hold all of your lovely flowers that you clip from your garden. The basket begins with a rectangular base 7 x 9. The side walls woven with narrow weavers flare out. A pattern around the basket features rows of 3 rod wale on either side of a wide band in the body of the basket. The top of the basket is finished with a lovely rolled wicker border. The basket is woven on a flared D handle. Color will be added to the side walls and the rolled border. Some might be inspired to call this a lovely English market basket. |
