It's Summer Camp Once Again!:
Posted: Tuesday, June 07, 2005

Kids can get in the action this summer with specialized camps and classes designed just for their age groups!

ARTS PRESCHOOL
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1 - 3 p.m.
One Three-Week Sessions, June 28 - July 14.
For children ages 4 & 5
Team taught by Meeghan Humphrey, Nan Case and Shelagh Dubsky.
Directed by Judy White.

This class is designed to introduce children to the arts and to some of the skills that they will need when they attend school. The children will have an art, music and dance component during each session. They will also have a short snack break. All of the teachers will work on group skills such as socialization, following instructions, taking turns, playing fair and respect for one another. These skills will be learned in a creative atmosphere that encourages success and building self-confidence. Frequently, the lesson plans will be carried through all three components with a related theme or story. The Music Component will introduce: songs finger play rhymes using your voice counting organized rhythm beginning instruments The Dance Component will introduce: rhythm controlling gross motor skills coordination stories and movement balance relating movement to music qualities of movement imagination exercises The Art Component will introduce: colors numbers cutting gluing painting drawing sculpture relating art to a story proper use and care of materials Each session limited to 10 students. Early registration is recommended.

MULTI-ARTS DAY CAMP
For kids in grades 1 - 6
Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Two Three Week Sessions, JUNE 20 - JULY 8 OR JULY 11 - 29 (Same material taught in each session.)
$150 Members / $175 Nonmembers (Non-refundable $50 deposit required two weeks before camp begins.)
Parents should pack a lunch for campers each day, and children should bring a white T-shirt to the first session (for decorating).
Held at the Ashtabula Arts Center, this camp is an integrated experience for children who are interested in exploring the world of the arts. Each day will include instruction in dance, music, art and theater - all as part of a rehearsal for the musical theater production of “As the Pages Turn.” All campers will participate in the production. Sets and costumes will be made in art class. Songs and lines will be rehearsed in music and acting class, while dances will be choreographed in the dance session. All of the work will come together in a performance on the Straw Hat Theatre stage on the final day of camp. This a great experience for young, aspiring actors to get their feet wet. Also a great experience for kids who aren't sure which aspect of the arts they want to pursue in depth. Spaces fill very quickly so register early!
