Uh oh! School is closed again! The Arts Center has planned another day of arts fun for kids in grades 1-6. Explore the magic of Art & Science combined in this day-long event. Spend the day creating projects that explore the properties of materials to make art projects. Explore how frozen crystals and paint react when combined. Observe the properties of light in your own kaleidoscope. Create and ice sculpture. Learn about how reflected light creates color with a spinning color wheel. Other projects include: papermaking, marbling, chalk & water painting, invisible paint, marshmallow sculptures and more. This is truly a day of hands-on fun and learning.

Pastel Workshop with Martha Blair
"Animal Portraits"

Saturday, January 28th
9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
$35 Nonmembers/$31.50 Members
Payment is required at registration.
Please register early.

Students in this class will complete a portrait in either charcoal or pastels. Blair will guide students in a quick sketch for a warm-up. This will be followed by laying out the drawing on pastel paper and completed in either charcoal or pastels. Demonstration and guidance will be provided throughout the class.

Required: A good close-up photo of your subject (your beloved pet). Photos taken from a distance are very difficult to work from. It would be helpful to have it blown up to 8x10 size. This can be done on a color copier or on a
computer. Other materials: drawing board or easel, charcoal and conte pencils in brown and white, colored pastel or charcoal paper, a gentle eraser, and pastels. If you do not have all of these things, the instructor has lots of pastels and is willing to share with students. The Arts Center has drawing boards, easels and a selection of pastels also. If this is your first pastel class, we will lend you what you don't have and paper is available for purchase from the instructor.
