Save the date! Women’s Service League of Ashtabula County Inc. and the Ashtabula Arts Center Board of Trustees present the Dining for the Arts Cocktail Party at the Ashtabula Arts Center on Saturday, May 3, 2008. Join us for an entertaining evening as you decide which of this year’s wonderful culinary events you would like to attend! Dinner parties to be hosted in the coming year will be available for signup. Those attending the cocktail party will receive first choice in selecting their dinners. For those unable to attend, reservations will begin May 5th. Tuition: $385.00 Member rate: $346.50 For the Intermediate/AdvancedStudent Nationally known and award winning watercolor artist, Frederick C. Graff will be traveling to Ashtabula this summer to present a watercolor workshop at the Ashtabula Arts Center. The workshop will be conducted “on location.” Students will paint at selected sites in the area, taking advantage of the local beauty of Ashtabula County’s shoreline, adjacent harbor views and other architectural subject matter. Graff is one of today’s leading artists and educators in the field of watercolor painting. A “Signature Member” of the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society and Transparent Watercolor Society, Graff has been conducting his informative and creative workshops for 37 years. He has been accepted into numerous top national, state and regional exhibits and his diverse approach to painting continues to attract individual and corporate collectors including : Permanent Collection of the Governor’s Mansion of Ohio; Bank One; Wausau Insurance Co.; General Tire; Mobay Chemical; Union Carbide; Key Bank and many other corporate and private collections. Each of Graff’s workshops is designed to meet the specific needs of the participants. Graff gives careful consideration to each group’s area of interest, level of ability and general knowledge of watercolor. Graff’s workshops include a series of exercises, lectures and demonstrations that enable students to fully understand how to develop a painting that reinforces the principles and elements of design. The different concepts introduced will enlighten both traditional and contemporary watercolor artists. “When an artist understands the basic principles and elements of design,” says Graff, “the subject matter becomes unlimited. The selection of my subject matter is determined by my immediate response to the subject and its surrounding environment. It is essential that I go beyond the level of just recording facts. It is my intent to convey a spontaneous response in an unrestricted yet semi-controlled manner. This approach to watercolor painting lends itself to a unique and unpredictable experience. This state of uncertainty compels me to further explore the world of watercolor.” In addition to the Ashtabula workshop, Graff will be holding 2008 workshops in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Stonington, Maine. He will also be doing a European Watercolor Workshop in Puy L’Eveque, France next fall. Enrollment is limited in order to ensure quality one-on-one instruction. Students will be required to supply their own materials.
