Arts Center Welcomes New Violin Instructor:

The Arts Center is proud to announce the addition of violin instructor Yirae Kang to its staff of music teachers.
A senior at Edgewood High School, Kang is involved in many different areas of music. She is the concert master and second principle violin player for the Erie Junior Philharmonic Orchestra in Erie, PA, as well as the ensemble leader and first violin player for the Erie Junior String Ensemble. She is also active in the Edgewood Soundsations Show Choir, where she plays piano and sings for the choir.
Since 1999,Yirae Kang Kang has also participated in the annual OMEA Music Contest, in which she has consistently received a rating of one (the highest rating possible) in the violin A category.
Aside from music, Kang also excels academically, taking Honors or AP classes at Edgewood. She has a 4.0 GPA, and will be named valedictorian of the class of 2003. She is also president of the National Honor Society, and has been a member of Student Council since her freshman year. She completed the Youth Leadership Program in Ashtabula County in May 2002, as well as the Mentorship Program, in which she served a 50 hour mentorship with Dr. Wnek of Ashtabula. In her free time she enjoys dancing, exercising, reading and spending time with her friends.
Kang says that she wants to teach at the Arts Center because she “loves working with people, helping them in any way I can and getting their help as well.” She calls herself a “responsible, strong-willed person who does not give up until the goal has been satisfied ... I work hard to improve my weaknesses, as well as to strengthen my talents.”
Violin lessons with Yirae Kang will be $10 per half hour, and can be arranged by calling Music Coordinator Lyn Savarise at 964-3396.
