Gloria DiFabio to Perform at Coffeehouse:
|
Posted: Wednesday, October 02, 2002
Local favorite Gloria DiFabio will appear at the Ashtabula Arts Center in a special coffeehouse performance Saturday, October 26, at 7:30 p.m.
A Pennsylvania native, DiFabio has been playing the piano since age four. At age 10 she began taking formal piano lessons, so that she could learn to read music properly. However, after a few years she realized she had developed her own unique style of music and preferred to play “the way she liked to play,” as opposed to structured lessons.
In 1954 Gloria auditioned and was accepted to perform on the Wilkens TV Amateur Hour, a Pittsburgh television program that recognized new local talent. From 1955 to 1959, the “Gloria Jean Trio” entertained in the Silver Lounge of the Twin Coaches Supper Club in Pittsburgh, and it was in this nightclub that she got the opportunity to meet several musical greats, such as Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, the Four Lads, Tony Martin, Bill Haley and the Comets, and the McGuire Sisters. She has since recorded several albums, the most recent of which was completed and released in April, 2001. In 1998, an album entitled “Let the Sunshine In,” which she recorded with the Del SGloria DiFabioinchak Band of Youngstown, was nominated for a Grammy award. She has also performed piano-keyboard backup for the Eddie Vallus Band II on two of their albums.
Now married and living in Geneva-on-the-Lake, DiFabio estimates that she has performed for hundreds of groups and thousands of individuals over the past 45 years.
Difabio will perform at the Arts Center October 26. Doors open at 7:00 p.m., with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. Coffee, pastries and cookies will be provided throughout the evening.
Tickets for the show are $8 general admission and $7 students. Reservations are recommended, and can be made by calling the Arts Center at (440) 964-3396.
Come join us for an evening of great music in this intimate coffeehouse setting!
