Posted: Tuesday, November 04, 2003
The Ashtabula Arts Center is pleased to announce the addition of guitar instructor Randy Coutts to our musical staff.
An Ashtabula resident, Coutts has been teaching guitar to students in the Ashtabula and Cleveland areas for the past 12 years.
He has also made a living as a professional singer and guitar player in
northeastern Ohio since 1974.
He has played in several area rock bands, including Bridgestreet (1974-1979), Fast Cats (1979-1984), Average Bar Band (1984-1989), and Blue Lou and the Other Two (1989-1999). He has also played with the blues band Randy James and the Hurricanes (1995-1999), the blues/rock band Heart of Souls (1999-2001), and the acoustic blues and rock band Barbato and James (1999-2001).
Currently, Coutts performs every week in venues
throughout northeastern Ohio, either with the blues band Mojo Band, or the rock band Moon Dance.
Coutts received his guitar instruction from Tony Butch, Don Banzer, Ed Ollikainen and Glen Schwartz of the well-known 70’s band Union Pacific Gas & Electric/The James Gang. He acquired his teaching certification by completing four years of Alfred’s Basic Guitar Methods.
At the Arts Center Coutts will offer beginning and advanced instruction in both acoustic and electric guitar, and will utilize many different styles of music. He will also offer beginning and intermediate instruction in bass guitar, as well as beginning lessons in mandolin and banjo. He is capable of teaching students to read music and/or play by ear.
To set up lessons, please contact AAC Music Coordinator Lyn Savarise at 964-3396.
