Alex Bevan Returns for Coffeehouse:
|
Posted: Wednesday, December 10, 2003
Singer/songwriter and local favorite Alex Bevan will return to the Ashtabula Arts Center in January for a special coffeehouse performance. The concert will be held on Saturday, January 10, at 7:30 p.m.
Bevan has been a familiar face in venues throughout northeastern Ohio for many years.
A native of East Cleveland, Bevan began playing music while in elementary school. By his high school graduation he was performing as a backup musician with Irish folk singers Gusty and Sean at Fagan’s Beacon House in the Flats of Cleveland.
Bevan has spent many years playing music in nightclubs, coffeehouses, and college settings. He has performed as the opening act for such headliners as The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Jimmy Buffet, Livingston Taylor, Billy Joel, The Michael Stanley Band, The Doobie Brothers and Hall and Oates.
He is perhaps best known for the song “Skinny Little Boy From Cleveland, Ohio,” from his album “Springboard.”
While he has experimented with different musical styles - including folk/rock, acoustic and electric guitar, natural themes, and children’s music - his recent works are of a “storytelling through music” variety.
Bevan’s most recent recordings include “South Shore Serenade,” an album devoted to his beloved Lake Erie, and “Rules of the Road,” a live recording in a small concert setting.
In addition, Bevan has produced five recordings for popular Put-In-Bay/Key West performer Pat Dailey, written over 100 radio and television commercials, and re-released several of his earlier albums in CD form. Bevan also recently won an Emmy for his postscore of NBC’s “American Promise” documentary segment “The Rustbelt Blues.”
Bevan’s appearance at the Arts Center will be performed in an informal setting in the gallery. Coffee, cookies, breads and pastries will be available for no charge throughout the performance.
The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m., with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. Although
reservations are being taken to avoid overcrowding, seating in the gallery is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tickets for the coffeehouse are $8 general admission and $7 students, and can be reserved by calling the Arts Center.
