|
Posted: Monday, January 27, 2003
Have some good, clean fun at the Arts Center in February, as G.B. Community Theater presents Suds: the Rocking 60s Musical Soap Opera. The musical will be presented as a dinner theater for two weekends, February 7 -9 and 14-16.
Set in a Laundromat, Suds is the story of Cindy, a young woman at work on her birthday. Things are going fine, until the postman delivers her some bad news. Among other things, she has just been dumped by her pen-pal boyfriend - for, of all things, someone with better penmanship. After trying unsuccessfully to commit suicide in a washing machine, Cindy is saved by her two guardian angels, Dee Dee and Marge. They have been sent to help her with her dilemma by dispensing advice on what Cindy should be looking for in her dream man. As possible suitors enter and exit the Laundromat - including the washing machine repairman, the nerdy Milt Dudman, the dreamy Johnny Angel, and the debonair Mr. Right - Cindy continues her search for true love.
The musical includes over 50 rock, pop and Broadway tunes from the 1960's, including such favorites as "Chapel of Love," "Shout," "Please Mr. Postman," "You Can't Hurry Love," "I Say A Little Prayer," and "The Locomotion."

The cast is made up of only four people. Jordan Malin of Ashtabula will play Cindy, while Linda Fundis and Colleen OLeary fill the roles of Marge and Dee Dee, respectively. The male roles will all be played by Joshua Twining.

Suds is directed by Debra Greene-Lowe.
This show is presented as a dinner theater, with menus changing nightly. Dinners will be served in the gallery, with the show following in the theater. Friday and Saturdays dinners will be served at 6:30 p.m., and Sundays dinner begins at 5:00 p.m. The menus for the two weekends are as follows:
