This classic, entertaining satire, first published as a book by Ken Kesey in 1962, tells the story of an energtic con man who seeks institutionalization as a means of escaping the rigors of a prison work farm. Before long, he begins to challenge the controlling, agenda-entrenched Nurse Ratched, and irrevocably alters the destiny of those in the ward. The play attacks rules that exist without question and has a roster of complex characters. McMurphy becomes a hero but pays dearly for his individualism.
“One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest” was inspired by author Kesey's job as an orderly at a veteran's hospital and by the 1960’s counterculture movement touting such themes as freedom, rebellion and fearlessness. Dale Wasserman adapted the novel into a play in 1974, and Miles Forman directed a successful film adaptation of the novel the following year.
Directed by Joshua Theilan, G. B. Theatre’s talented cast will include Tim Dorman as “McMurphy” and Devon Shriver as “Nurse Ratched.” Also appearing will be Clay Nielsen as “Chief Bromden,” Ryan Czerwonko as “Aide Williams,” Steve Baker as “Aide Warren,” Alex VanAllen as “Nurse Flinn,” Larry Gasch as “Dale Harding and Cheswick,” Chris Nappi as Billy Bibbit,” Tom Udell as “Scanlon,” Curtiss Brown as “Martini,” Bill Baker as “Ruckly,” Mark Pendleton as “Doctor Spivey,” Ken Miller as “Mr. Turkle,” Sierra Nagy as “Candy Starr” and Leeann Taylor as “Sandra.”
A dessert bar will be held before the show on Saturday, January 13. For $3, patrons can sample as many desserts as they wish. The dessert bar includes coffee, tea and hot chocolate.

Dinner will be held before the show on January 20 for $13 plus the cost of your theater ticket. Dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. and usually includes soup or salad, entree, potato, vegetable, rolls with butter, dessert, coffee, tea and soft drinks. Dinner reservations are required by noon on Wednesday, January 17. Seating is limited and often sell out well in advance. Reservations should be made as early as possible.

For tickets or dinner reservations, phone the Arts Center at (440) 964-3396.

The family favorite tale is back! Based upon the popular Harold Gray comic strip “Little Orphan Annie,” the original Broadway production is a seven-time Tony Award winning musical. G. B. Theatre Opens a New Season!:

A NEW G.B. THEATRE SEASON GETS UNDERWAY!

After an exciting Straw Hat summer of musical fun, the Arts Center is now even more excited to bring you our 2006-2007 G. B. Community Theatre line-up of great shows! We have a marvelous season planned--one that will entertain you and your entire family. We hope you will come out to see every show and perhaps bring a friend who has never visited our theater before. The subscription packages offered on page 4 make it easy for you to do just that, and at a discount! We really appreciate and depend on your support!

We are once again offering “Dinner Before the Show” and our “Dessert Bar” prior to select performances. Information about both of these popular activities can also be found on the following pages. It takes an enormous amount of effort to put together our dinner events and we can use all the help we can get! We are greatly in need of cooks and kitchen helpers. If you can volunteer your time for one of these dinners, it would be most appreciated!

But what you really want to hear about is our upcoming season! So here goes!

This year our season starts out with a musical production that children will clamor to see-- "Jack and the Giant." With a dancing cow, a chicken that lays golden eggs and Jack’s battle with the giant, Gogmagog, this special event promises to delight the child in all of us! This magical tale will be seen Sept. 30, Oct. 1 and 8 at 2:00 p.m. Oct. 7 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Sponsored by KeyBank will be the story of Argentina’s controversial first lady, Eva Peron, in "Evita." This musical masterpiece will play October 28, 29, November 3, 4, 5, 9, 10 and 11. Thank you KeyBank, for helping us to bring this Broadway favorite to our stage!

Following Ballet Theatre Ashtabula’s annual Christmas performances of "Nutcracker," a charming rogue contrives to serve a short sentence in an airy mental institution instead of a prison when G. B. Theatre returns to the stage with "One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest" on January 12, 13, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26 and 27.

Another family favorite comes to the stage on February 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23 and 24 when orphan Annie gets the chance of a lifetime to live for a week at Daddy Warbuck’s estate in the beloved Broadway musical, "Annie."

A beguiling and hilarious tale, "Over the Tavern," is the story about growing up Catholic in 1950’s as seen through the eyes of Rudy Pazinski, a precocious 12-year-old boy. This show will play for two weeks only--on March 9, 10, 11, 15, 16 and 17.

Next up will be the musical review--Kids on Broadway! An evening of great tunes awaits you in this main stage show that will be offered just one weekend--March 22, 23, 24 and 25.

The following weekend brings our second special event of the season when our Children’s Theater Production class brings you the delightful story of "Pocahontas." This popular class which will be offered in our January newsletter, takes students though the entire process of putting on a production. Everyone gets involved rehearsing parts, building sets and making costumes. This annual favorite will be performed March 30 at 7:30 PM, March 31 at 2 PM and 7:30 PM and April 1 at 2 PM.

In our final main stage show of the season, the first night out after their baby's arrival becomes a hilarious nightmare for Beth and Roy when their sitter arrives too late. The Babysitter will be another two week production and will play on April 13, 14, 15, 19, 20 and 21.

All main stage shows begin at 8:00 PM except on Sundays. Sunday matinees will begin at 3:00 PM.

So grab the folks and grab a friend and come on out to the theater! We can promise you a fun and fabulous time!

For tickets: (440) 964-3396.
