Straw Hat Theatre 2008:
Posted: Thursday, July 10, 2008

It’s time for another fun, fabulous season of outdoor theater!

"The Last Five Years"
June 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14

Opening on Friday, June 6, "The Last Five Years" is a one-act musical written by Jason Robert Browning that first appeared off-Broadway in 2002 and has quickly become one of the most beloved new musicals around. The story explores a five-year relationship between a rising novelist and a struggling actress and underscores the truth that even in the closest of relationships, each person can see the world in a very different way. "The Last Five Years" will be directed by Connor O'Brien and Brint Learned. Produced by special arrangement with Music Theater International (MTI).

"Little Mary Sunshine"
June 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29, July 3, 4, 5

Promising to be the comedic hit of the summer, "Little Mary Sunshine" by Rick Besoyan will delight all ages as it spoofs the old time operetta that kept our grandparents riveted to their movie house seats! As a group of brave-hearted rangers hunt down “Yellow Feather,” one of those nasty, savage Indians, sweet little Mary must face her own dilemma. She has purchased a Colorado mountain inn from the government using earnings from the sale of her home baked cookies. But alas! Mary hasn't sold enough cookies and now the bad ol’ government is going to foreclose! Oh my! What ever shall she do?! Mary’s plight only worsens when she is kidnapped by Indians and her only hope is that the fearless rangers will reach her on time! Directed by Steve Rhodes, "Little Mary Sunshine" turns back the clock to a world of beautiful heroines,
dastardly villains, shining heroes and down-to-the-wire rescues. Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc.

"Alice In Wonderland"
July 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 24, 25, 26

As summer gets into full swing, next up will be a tale that will awaken the dreams and imaginations of the child in us all when Straw Hat Theatre stages "Alice In Wonderland." Written by Sally Netzel and Beatrice Wolf, this musical adaptation of Lewis Carroll's famous story will bring to life all of Carroll's beloved characters. Directed by Linda Fundis, "Alice in Wonderland" will be filled with delightful scenes and songs that promise to make this show a charming memory that your family will carry with them for years to come. Produced by special arrangement with I. E. Clark, Inc.,Schulenburg, TX.

"Grease"
August 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16

It’s back to the days of Rock-n-Roll when "Grease" brings back Rydell High's spirited class of '59; gum chewing, hubcap stealing, hot rod loving boys with D.A.'s and their wise cracking girls in bobby sox and pedal pushers! While hip Danny Zuko and wholesome Sandy Dumbrowski resolve the problems of their mutual attraction, the gang sings and dances their way through such nostalgic scenes as the pajama party, the prom, the burger palace, and the drive-in movie!Directed by Douglas Anderson, "Grease," was written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc.
