Drawings by Jack Coville on Display in June:
|
Posted: Tuesday, May 06, 2003
A native of Conneaut, Jack Coville has been drawing animals for the past 25 years.
He obtained his BFA from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, and his MFA from Edinboro University in Edinboro, PA. He has exhibited his works in several galleries across Michigan, California, Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York, including The James Hunt Barker Gallery, The Nelson Rockefeller Collection, and The Philadelphia Zoo.
Many of his works are also held in private and corporate collections around the world.
In his artist’s statement, Coville says, “I feel I have developed the ability to capture the essence of their being with pencil and charcoal on paper, and to develop the spirit of their living beauty, thus giving them a life of their own and to set them free for viewing.”
Coville continues to draw and paint out of his studio in Conneaut. His closeness with the subjects he draws exists not only with animals but with nature in general.
“Season after season, time gives us the present memory of sky, wind and earth that our lives experience. Nature goes on while we step back to see her pass. Our senses give us the ability to interpret each moment,” he says.
Coville’s drawings will be on display in the gallery June 4 - 30. An opening reception will be held on Friday, June 13, from 7 - 8:30 p.m.
