Watercolor Paintings by Alix Travis
June 1 - 30
Opening Reception on Friday, June 4, 7 - 8:30 p.m.

The Arts Center will host an exhibit by watercolor artist Alix Travis June 1 - 30 in the gallery.

The primary subject of Travis’ paintings is man’s mark on the landscape. A rotting barn surrounded by beautiful mountaintops or trees with brilliant autumn leaves. A field of bright golden soybeans with a rusting oil well in the
center. A metropolitan skyline foreshadowed by a tiny church in the middle of an open field.

She strives to make her paintings seem “unlabored.” In her own words: “Soft edges outnumber hard. Paint is rarely layered and I employ few special effects. The overall impression is one of pulsating light punctuated by rich darks and a sense of history.”

A Cleveland resident, Travis is a member of the Midwest Transparent Watercolor Society and the Creative Artists Association. Her works have won awards at the Valley Art Center 31st Annual Juried Exhibition and Competition in Chagrin Falls, and the Creative Artists Association 50th Anniversary Exhibition.

An opening reception will be held on Friday, June 4, from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Admission is free.
