VOLUNTEER NEWS AND NOTES:

By Pamela Hammond, Volunteer Coordinator

After a long winter and cool, wet spring, summer has finally arrived. Hooray! I am so thrilled to finally see warm weather that I don’t even mind that the grass needs constant mowing or that the weeds in my flowers need to be pulled every other day. My birdwatching cats are even more excited than I am. They love nothing more than lying in the open window with the birds feeders less than three feet away!

Here at the Arts Center our summer schedule is well under way. Classes and summer camps are in full swing along with rehearsals, theatre performances and a new gallery exhibit. Our halls are bursting daily with activity.

This summer I am in the process of updating our list of volunteers, so if you have volunteered in the past and haven’t heard from me yet, you will be receiving a call from me shortly. I am interested to find out if your volunteer interests have changed and what you schedule is like. If you have not volunteered before and would like to do so, give me a call!

Our volunteer needs at the Arts Center are many. For various receptions, coffee houses and exhibit openings we need people to make and donate trays of cookies, fruits and vegetables, cheese and crackers or other finger foods. If you’re handy in the kitchen we could really use your help! If you enjoy working with children, we have a number of activities that require volunteers to assist children with crafts and other projects. Throughout the year we need helpers to assist with mass mailings and clean up chores. Each Straw Hat, G.B. Theatre, and Dance show needs a crew to design and paint sets, handle various tasks backstage plus volunteers to usher and help out with our box office, concessions stand and 50/50 raffle. The list goes on and on! We really appreciate all of your help and without your efforts we couldn’t do half the things we do!

Thank you!
