VOLUNTEER NEWS AND NOTES:
Posted: Tuesday, May 04, 2004

By Pamela Hammond, Volunteer Coordinator

First let me say a big THANK YOU to those who have volunteered at the Arts Center these past couple of months. We’ve had quite a few wonderful activities, including productions of “Les Miserables School Edition,” “Father of the Bride,” the Theatre Musical Revue, “Babes in Toyland,” and the Good Life’s “A Century of Song” concert. We’ve had an art exhibit by Don Tiitto and the annual Kiwanis Club Student Art Competition, plus a variety of other events and behind the scenes activities that are too numerous to mention. All of these things have been successful because of you and your willingness to take time out of your busy schedules to lend a hand. We deeply appreciate all that you do!

While sitting outside a Dairy Mart on a busy Monday morning, waiting for my husband to run in and buy a newspaper, I watched as a man in green coveralls stepped forward to hold open the door for the Coke delivery guy as he rolled his palate of two-liter bottles toward the store. A woman in a navy suit and heels hurried out the door to her car, juggling a carton of yogurt and car keys in one hand, while holding a cell phone to her ear with the other. A young mother in jogging pants steered her toddler inside to pay for the gas she’d pumped as two men dressed in paint-spattered jeans and work boots carried their Krispy Kremes and coffees to their pickup.

It was clear to me as I sat there just how many different types of people it takes to keep our community running. Our volunteer community at the Arts Center is very much the same. We have volunteers of all ages, with a multitude of ideas and interests - and each one of them plays an important role. If you have a few extra hours, why not drop by the Arts Center and join them? We’ll find just the right job for you - there are lots of things that need to be done - and you’ll likely make some new friends along the way!
